I am offended that saying Merry Christmas offends you, here is why

I am offended that saying Merry Christmas offends you, here is why....

You see it is very simple and easy to understand actually; the Holiday that occurs on and around the 25th of December annually is actually called CHRISTMAS! Easy enough to understand right?

It all began over 2000 years ago with the birth of Jesus Christ as is CHRISTmas. Every year on the date of his birth Christians around the word celebrate his birthday and usually joyfully greet one another by saying Merry Christmas.

Now, I appreciate that this is a culturally diverse world we live in duh! Not everyone celebrates CHRISTmas and guess what that is okay!!!

Of late people seem to think that it is politically incorrect to say "Merry Christmas" and opt to change that to Happy Holidays - well that offends ME!!!

Albeit I am not a practicing Christian but it doesn't mean that I don't acknowledge it.

Kwanzaa is Kwanzaa, Hanukah is Hanukah, Diwali is Diwali  - I don't go around and say to others that celebrate those holidays by saying happy holidays to you - NO I am respectful and say to them Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Diwali. CAUSE GUESS WHAT? Those ARE the names of their holidays - I would NEVER ask them to change that - even the White House started calling their Christmas Tree a Holiday Tree. How dumb is that?

I'd NEVER ask Jewish people to change the name of the Menorah to a Holiday candle - how selfish would that be of me, or anyone for that matter????

We have gone radical with respects to being politically correct and this is just taking it way too far.

Christmas is Christmas because that is the actual name of the holidays - no other reason!

Therefore I am offended that saying Merry Christmas offends you.

and when it comes time..... (just to name a few)

and to every other wonderful celebratory holidays out there ENJOY!!!

It is YOUR fault your kids feel entitled

Are you finding that your child(ren) just doesn't listen, are constantly afraid of an embarrassing public meltdown, do your kids demand things all the time?

This is not a behaviour that just started one day - patterns were started unbeknownst to you long before and you are the common denominator.

A child without boundaries, limitations and hearing the word NO (and meaning it) will eventually feel entitled period end of story.

So what to do?  Well, for one start as early as possible with,

1) FOLLOW THROUGH!!! Do not make a statement or threat of punishment (like: you are going to go to your room if said behaviour doesn't stop) and not follow through. If you say you may not go out with your friends and then you let them - just what kind of message are you sending?

2) Do not fall in the trap of blindfully rewarding bad behaviour. What do I mean? For example Suzy misbehaves and continues to do so even after being asked to stop the behaviour. Once grounded Suzy pleas emotionally that she is sorry, Mom/Dad accept said apology and then reward the child with an ice cream or the like. Instead of saying "I am sorry Suzy your behaviour earlier was not acceptable and I will not reward you with a treat at this time. Let's try again tomorrow."

3) Say NO more often. Saying NO to your child(ren) is actually healthy for their development. It teaches them amongst other things that there are boundaries and they are to be respected. Ever see that child in the shopping mall where a parent tried to say NO and a meltdown ensues only to have the Mom give in to avoid embarrassment? Well had the Mom said NO more often this would probably not have happened. Think of it as building up a mental muscle in the child. Every NO helps to increase the muscle making no easier to hear and feel. Not to mention when the YES happens it will be that much more enjoyable and appreciated.

4) Stop doing EVERYTHING for them. Let them carry their own backpacks, let them dress themselves, let them make mistakes. Don't micro manage them. Here is a blog I wrote on that.
http://kathleensbabble.blogspot.ca/2015/11/stop-doing-everything-for-your-kids.html

Doing these few things will greatly improve your child's behaviour and help them along in life.

Feeding your Mind, Body & Soul

What are you feeding your mind, body & soul?

Mind:

I often catch myself when having a negative thought & I try to replace it with a positive one. Not always easy though. When I find myself frustrated, scared, intimidated I repeat a mantra in my head.  Mine is "I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me."  I emphasis the ALL part of that as ALL things are possible.

Try to find your own mantra you can use for when the mind starts to go in a direction you don't want it to.

Body:

I try to make the best possible food choices that I can being a Vegetarian makes this a tad difficult as I need to look for high protein foods to replace meat. Getting the morning started off right with exercise and a healthy meals really sets the tone for my day.

Try the KISS method (keep it simple stupid) FOR EXAMPLE: Have hard boiled eggs ready for the morning, prep your lunch the night before and use your crock pit to have dinner all ready for when you get home.

Soul:

This is an area that I need to work on - I need to feed my soul and I haven't yet found a way in which to do that but if I look back on my life I'd say that I was feeding my soul when I painted, created and finished something that I did with my hands.

Feeding your soul can mean going for a quiet walk taking in nature and getting fresh air and exercise at the same time.

We are what we surround ourselves with - so surround yourself with like minded people who have goals, high morals, a good sense of humor, loyal and who are kind.

What are you feeding your MIND, BODY & SOUL?

STOP doing everything for your kids

Sad thing about the picture above is that most Moms would stop and take the stick and carry it, instead of enlisting the child to help carry some of her stuff.

STOP doing everything for your kids
It amazes me that parents these days appear to do EVERYTHING for their kids including carrying their school backpacks.  Kids can do a lot more than we give them credit for and I know sometimes it is a lot easier and faster just to do things ourselves instead of painfully watching them attempt to do it on their own.

But doing everything for them is actually hurting them and their development in life. Plan for allowing extra time for your younger  kids to learn to tie their shoe laces, plan for extra time to let them do their own seat belt, plan for extra time to allow them to do up their own zipper.  When there is down time allow them to practise these things.
Allowing them the space to fail at their attempt is OK! It teaches them practice makes perfect principles, it will make them feel proud they accomplished something on their own as well as help them develop finer motor skills, responsibility as well as independence.

Don't be a hypocrite SNIP it #snipit

You want to have a baby - so you start to take very good care of your health. You start eating better, start exercising, start taking your supplements and if you are lucky you become pregnant within a short period of trying.

Your pregnant congrats! Now you start your journey of 9 months of caring for your unborn child. You start your OBGYN appointments and quickly learn that your body is no longer just yours. Changes occur on a weekly basis, morning sickness takes over your morning and for some the entire day. Woozy, weak, dizzy and vomiting become the norm. Ultra sounds that require your bladder to be FULL for an extended period of time while the technician pushes down on your tummy to get images of your unborn baby.

Blood work, test after test, trimester after trimester, leaking breasts, fatigue, sleepless uncomfortable nights and more will happen to you until the day finally comes....the baby is coming.

At first you are excited that things are finally starting to happen and your anticipation quickly turns into excruciating pain. How long will labour be, how long will you have to wait to see your beautiful baby? Fluids will come out of you that you weren't even a wear of. Needles will be stuck in your arm, you will be hooked up to monitors then finally it is time to push - you are told you will need an episiotomy and the use of a vacuum to assist the baby travels down the birth canal. Then bam baby has arrived. (assuming that all went according to plan, you and baby are healthy)

Now you have this bundle of joy and breast feeding/bottle feeding has you up all hours of the night all while you are trying to recover from giving birth.

A few months pass and you have settled into your routine and you quickly realize that there doesn't seen too be as much time for your partner and the thought of NOT having another child has been decided - then without a bat of an eye it is automatically assumed; that you the one that just went through all the rig amoral to have the baby in the first place, will be the one to go into surgery and have your tubes tide!!! The "go to" thought for most couples.

A lot of men are terrified to have a vasectomy - they believe or fear that their bits wont function the same way and they will be doomed forever.

This is such a cop out and they are being chicken sh*ts - I say after everything women go through for a single birth or multiple birth the VERY least the man can do is have this simple procedure done.

Don't be a hypocrite SNIP it!!!  #snipit

Do's and Don'ts of Garage Sales

I am a Garage Sale junkie and have been for the past 20+ yrs. I have come across some doozies of a sale both in a good way and a bad way.

For some (like me) the Garage Sale season represent a treasure hunt each and every weekend. The excitement of not knowing what you will score is what keeps you going back week after week.

However, some make the experience a dull one, so here are some of my rules of thumb for those attending a sale and those having a Garage Sale.

Having a Sale:

We all have stuff we no longer need or want and what better way to get rid of it and earn a little extra cash than having a Garage sale?

1) Pricing your items at a reasonable price is KEY! If you don't you are only going to find yourself packing the items back up and storing them in your garage. We all think our stuff is worth more than it actually is. Look, it is a Garage Sale you are NOT a retail store, it is there for you to get rid of.

When asked by someone at your sale how much an item is - don't go into a long story about where you bought it and what you bought it for. Just say your price and be willing to negotiate, odds are that the person knows very well how much the item would have been new from the store. If you think your item is worth more than what it will fetch at a Garage Sale then list it on EBay or the like.

2) You have gathered your items and priced them right now it is time to advertise. Placing an add in your local paper is wise and I suggest you do but there are those of us that just go out and hunt Garage Sales down and it is your SIGNAGE that will get us there. BIG, BOLD signage is the best with CLEAR arrows pointing those to your sale. I can't emphasise this enough - a good sign with good arrows is truly appreciated by your shoppers. **Not everyone will have read your ad in the paper so if early birds arrive and you asked for no early birds in your ad, politely tell them your starting time - but, by sending them away just know that you probably will lose a sale.

Of course once your sale has concluded be respectful and remove all your signs. Many times I have seen a Garage Sale sign and gone to that address only to learn the sale was the previous weekend. VERY annoying to say the least and a waste of my time.

3) Display your items as neatly as possible. Although a lot of us don't mind sifting through boxes upon boxes it is much easier if things are out of the box and on tables, you will sell more items that way.

4) Whatever is left at the end of your sale can be donated to your local thrift shop. Or what we like to do with some bigger items is mark them free and put them on the curb. 9 times out of 10 they are gone by nightfall.

Going to a Sale:

1) Upon getting to a sale do a quick over view of the entire sale and see where you'd like to start. Does something catch your eye right away? - if so don't hesitate go grab it even if you don't know what the price is yet. You can always put it back if you don't like the price, but if you don't grab it right away someone else might and you'll be S.O.L (S*&t out of luck)

2) If you have many items you want ask for a box fill it with all you want then agree on a price for the lot. Doing this you may actually get your items for a lot less than if you did it individually. Have a tally in your mind when boxing it up and offer less, don't get offended though if they high ball you - if they do then you go price it piece by piece. Chances are you will get a good deal either way.

3) When negotiating you don't want to go too low in your offer. Generally speaking and for example if an item is $10.00 offer $7 or $8 and not $5. Too low of an offer can quickly offend the seller and then they may not even want you at their sale, and you'll know about it.

4) If you can't come to an agreed upon price you can use language like "I'd be happy to pay you X amount" or simply say "Okay thank you, I will leave it have a nice day" and go on your way to the next Sale.

Hope you enjoyed these Do's and Don'ts for Garage Sales.  Happy hunting.

I'd love to hear your tips and tricks as well as what your biggest score was. Please leave me a comment below.

5 reasons Why it is important to be bored

This day in age kids have just about every gizmo and gadget under the sun. An iPod, iPad,

cell phones, lap tops, computers, video games and now there is even DVD’s in the car. They are

constantly stimulated and never get any down time.

When, God forbid there appears to be nothing to do they announce “I’m bored!” And the proverbial

hand to the forehead takes place as parents.

Here are some reasons boredom should be embraced and happen on purpose.

1) Constant stimulation is not good for children’s mental development – they need down time to have inner reflection

2) Being constantly stimulated via social media or DVD’s and the like stun imagination – Daydreaming involves the same processes that control imagination and creativity.

3) Quiet time without even a book is very important for creativity and allows for us to be mindful of our surroundings, gazing at the clouds and listening to nature.

4) Boredom can allow us to decompress and recharge in a healthy way.

5) Time away from gizmos and gadgets will lessen the addiction to them.

So the next time you hear “I’m bored” Get excited and show your children how to be bored and

embrace it – it is good for them (and you).

Embrace Trailer, The Body Image Movement

This women loathed her body, she couldn't stand to be in her own skin. Looking in the mirror was painful to her. It wasn't until she looked at her young daughter that she thought about how she left about her body and how she would transfer those thought onto her daughter if she didn't change her own thoughts.

She wanted to have the perfect body and put in the effort to get it. She even entered into competitions, then went back to her "normal" size & self. Her before "fit" body and after "normal size" body images went viral seemingly overnight.

She has started a movement - Body Image Movement. She is talking to women and empowering them to love themselves as they are.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could just love ourselves as we are? Embrace yourself as you are!
Check out her YouTube video "Embrace", The Documentary Trailer here.

Do you remember her and her story?
