Fitness Can Be Fun

Hello friends,

Working out and being healthy can feel like a full time job. Make it super easy and FUN, come workout with a Warrior Family at https://www.relentlessfit365.com/.

About a year ago I found Jake and this community on YouTube and have ramped up my fitness routine ever since.

Jakes energy and enthusiasm towards his followers is infectious to say the least. Through the community Facebook page we all get to know one another and keep each other motivated and accountable. Check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/282641222232550/

Recently I was asked if I'd like to contribute a routine in their Warrior Spotlight that airs Sundays on YouTube and I accepted willingly as I felt it would be warmly received, and it has. Here is my routine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLQ8utBTwd0&lc=z23gglnqkkzxdxpz504t1aokgqbx2tnffnvdc0adk03hbk0h00410.1511720164070445

I am by no means a fitness instructor - BUT I am a HOME fitness Enthusiast who has been working out for over 14 years. Kickboxing and Strength workouts are by far my MOST favorite, here is one of Jakes YouTube videos that I enjoy revisiting time and time again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEwkHswZ-Ks&t=954s

I hope you will check out Jakes YouTube channel and come workout with us - everyone is welcome, including all levels.

Lice Lessons

Lice Lessons

You are home from a long days work and about to start making dinner when your child hands you his/her backpack. You reach inside to collect their dirty lunch remnants and find a note from the school that reads something like this: A child in your son/daughters class has been sent home with Lice. What should be included but often is not, is a detail description of what you should do next. I will now share that with you.

First a few tidbits about me, I m a mother of 2 (now grown children) and a recently retired home daycare provider. Over my daycare career I have helped raise close to 100 children. Needless to say I have had Lice in my home on a number of occasions.

Lets dive right in shall we....

Keep a vigilant eye for scratching - this is the beginning of your struggle. If your child is scratching at the nape of their neck or behind their ears it isn't because they are sweaty or whatnot it is probably the lice that are biting them. Don't ignore the scratching. (make sure their nails are cut short)

Start by grabbing 2 pencils and have a good look in these two places. Using the Pencils to separate the hair you are looking for nits, small grey/brownish (some describe them as transparent) they appear to be glued to the child's hair, close to the scalp. If you find these - YOU HAVE LICE.

If you have caught it early you should be able to control it relatively easily, just kidding it will be a ton of work (sorry). Go to the pharmacy and grab the treatment - might as well grab two as you WILL need this as your follow up. Also may as well buy the furniture spray while you are at it.

Lice will NOT go away without treatment.

Use the treatment as prescribed (read instructions carefully) and once the treatment is done immediately and I do mean immediately remove every single nit you can see - Section off  longer hair and go through section by section. This will take HOURS so find a comfortable spot with your child and get to work. Great time to pop them in front of the television for a movie.

Well, here comes the BIG next step (and DO NOT MISS THIS) Assuming you got ALL the nits out and although you and your child are pooped now is when you must do the following:

  1. Wash ALL bedding/towels etc. in HOT water and dry on HOT for an hour
  2. Wash all the child's clothing in the same manner
  3. Wash all outer wear as well, scarves, hats, hoods etc.
  4. Anything that can't be washed MUST be placed in a DARK sealed garbage bag for 2 weeks
  5. Spray furniture AND Car seats with the Lice furniture spray
  6. Vacuum child's bedroom floors/carpets/baseboards/mattress
  7. Remind your child(ren) NOT to share brushes, combs, hats, scarves etc. with school mates
Now you can rest......for a little while

Over the next 2 weeks monitor daily and redo the treatment portion at that time EVEN if you don't see nits - a live one can still be lurking about in school on another child whose parents haven't done their due diligence as well has you have.

It has been said that Lice nowadays should be called Super Lice. It is becoming immune to certain treatments, so extra care should be made to prevent the spread.

Here is the life cycle of Lice. This is why it is so important to do the follow up treatment in case you miss a nit - it will hatch and all your efforts will be lost.

If you do not do these things you WILL have to start this nightmare all over again, so best to do it correctly the 1st time.

Extreme cases may need the assistance of a Lice Squad, they come in and treat the family and help clean house (so to speak) the fee is upwards of $300 last time I checked. Well worth it.

I know this sounds daunting, I get it. Been there done that. Here is to happy Lice Free Heads.

Putting yourself "Out there" can be a scary thing.

For me I decided I needed some accountability and motivation, so I started my own YouTube channel. "Simply Kate Home Fitness Enthusiast".

I am by no terms a fitness professional, so take my workouts with a grain of salt and know that every subscriber pushes me to make more videos and keep at my fitness journey. Being over 40 and recently diagnosed with Hypothyroid makes any weight loss attempts that much more difficult.

I take a come as you are approach to my workouts, I get up have my coffee and do my workouts, no make up and just outta bed. I am not a size 2 or 4 or even 6, I don't strive to be, but what I do strive to be is the healthiest version of myself that I can be.

So, come workout with me and lets have some fun, get some exercise in and keep each other motivated.

I have wasted so much time

I can't believe I am in my mid 40's!! I feel like I was just at my mothers surprise 50th Birthday party (I remember thinking wow that is old) and yet that was some 20+ yrs ago and here I am almost 50. It feels like a blink, a dream even. Yet there were 24 hours in each day passing each week, month and year. That's about what, 175,200 hours that passed me by - wow. Did I use that time wisely? Did I make sufficient memories? Did I take "it" all in?

Where did the time go?

I will tell you where....worrying, feeling like I should do more, were the kids happy, was my husband happy, what should I make the kids for lunch today?, Would other moms approve of how I parent?, When the kids get older I'll live my life. Are there enough Christmas gifts under the tree?, I need to get rid of this 10 lbs. How are we going to afford the mortgage this month?, My in-laws, they intrude too much. When I have enough money I'll travel. Unexpected company came over and asked to use the bathroom but I hadn't cleaned it, I'm so embarrassed!, I should be more involved in my kids school. Why don't the kids and or my husband clean up after themselves, don't they now by now how "I" like things around here?, Why did I have that piece of cake?, Sex, no thanks too busy thinking about all that I have to do to be able to think about THAT!, Clean your room, another friggin sink full of dishes, really!!!, We never seem to have enough money, Did we invite enough kids to the birthday party?, Urgh, another party to host, Am I fat? and on and on and on.....You get the picture. Right?

......and you now what? I am still here - now in this very moment, despite all that worry all that doubt all the energy put into so many insignificant things, so much precious time wasted. Time passed by regardless of how I felt, regardless of how I spent it, regardless if the house was clean or not. The kids were fed, mortgages were met, Christmas was awesome, dishes got done, people used a dirty bathroom, Sex was had, other parents thought I was doing a pretty good job.

So here I am 40 (something) one kid moved out for some time now and one on the way out to College. I have a huge house filled with what, furniture, trinkets, that don't mean a dam thing!!! When all I'd love is to have more time.....more time with them, more, One more story Mommy, more I spilled my milk Mommy, I had an accident Mommy, One more kiss before bed Mommy, one more I love you Mommy.

Thank God I have had an awakening and can put all that BS aside and just focus on them, myself and my husband with a different perspective, one of clarity of what is really important and what I truly want to SPEND my time on.

Life is far too short ....

Life is far to short and far too quick you have heard this time and time again from so many people because it is TRUE! Time to stop worrying about things that don't matter one bit. Embrace the here and now, do not cry over spilled milk, spoil your spouse and not your kids, wear the nice lingerie just because, use the nice dishes, let the kids stay up and snuggle with them. Time will pass regardless and you will find yourself older and believe you me it happens in the blink of an eye.

Don't sweat the small stuff like I did. Enjoy your life for what that means to you.

How will you SPEND your time?
